The application itself is a straightforward hinge-and-squeegee job — but only if the surface is genuinely clean. Dust or residue left on the board is the number-one reason a decal lifts and eventually falls off. Plan on two things: denatured alcohol for the cleaning step (not a substitute), and working from the middle of the decal outward with a squeegee. Read the four steps through once before you start.

Before You Begin: Clean the Board — With Denatured Alcohol

This is the make-or-break step, and the manufacturer's instruction is specific: the surface must be cleaned with denatured alcohol before applying the decal. If the surface is not cleaned properly, dust or any residue can keep the decal from adhering properly — and a decal that doesn't bond fully will eventually fall off. Wipe the full footprint of the graphic plus a margin, and let it dry before positioning anything.

Step-by-Step Installation

Step 1 — Position the decal and tape it in place.

With the backing paper still on, put the decal on the board exactly where it will be installed. When it's placed right, tape it in position along one edge with masking tape — this tape hinge is what keeps your alignment while you work.

Step 2 — Peel back the first 6–12″ of backing.

Pull the un-taped portion of the decal back and separate the paper backing from the adhesive. Only pull back about 6″ to 12″ of backing at a time — then cut away the backing paper you just peeled, so it's out of your way.

Step 3 — Squeegee the exposed adhesive — middle first.

With a squeegee, press the exposed adhesive onto the board starting in the middle and working out to the edges. Working center-out is what keeps air from being trapped under the graphic.

Step 4 — Remove the hinge and finish the decal.

Once the first end is securely adhered, remove the masking tape and pull back the remaining backing paper — holding the loose decal away from the board as you go so the adhesive doesn't touch down early. Again start in the middle and squeegee the rest of the decal to the surface, out to the edges.

Common Mistakes to Avoid

Skipping (or shortcutting) the denatured-alcohol clean.
A board that looks clean can still carry dust or residue — that's the failure mode the manufacturer warns about. If the surface isn't properly cleaned, the decal won't adhere fully and will eventually fall off.
Peeling all the backing off at once.
The instructions call for 6″–12″ at a time. Expose more adhesive than you can control and the decal will grab the board where you didn't want it.
Squeegeeing from the edges inward.
Always start in the middle and work to the outside edge — in both the first pass and the finishing pass.
Letting the loose decal touch the board early.
While pulling the remaining backing, hold the decal away from the surface until the squeegee brings it down.
